Theo borrows his friend Sam's favorite toy truck without asking, and it gets muddy. He learns that telling the truth, fixing mistakes, and saying sorry makes everything better.
Theo and Sam were best friends who loved to play together. One sunny afternoon, they were building a grand sandcastle in Sam's backyard. Sam's brand-new, shiny red toy truck was perfect for hauling sand. "This truck is the best!" Sam said, pushing it carefully along their sand road.
After playtime, Sam went inside for a snack, leaving his red truck by the sandbox. Theo saw it sitting there, so bright and fun. He really wanted to keep playing with it. Without thinking, Theo picked up the truck. "I'll just borrow it for a little while," he whispered to himself, and he took it to his own backyard.
Theo had a wonderful idea! He would use the red truck to help his mom in the garden. He loaded it with little rocks to make a border for the flowers. He zoomed the truck back and forth, making "vroom" sounds. It was so much fun!
But then, a little accident happened. Theo was pushing the truck a bit too fast near the vegetable patch. The wheels hit a soft, muddy spot from yesterday's watering! Sploosh! The shiny red truck was now covered in thick, brown mud.
Theo's heart sank. He looked at the muddy truck. This was Sam's favorite new toy, and he hadn't even asked to borrow it. A worried, squirmy feeling filled his tummy. What should he do? He could try to hide it, but that didn't feel right.
Theo took a deep breath and went to find his mom. "Mom," he said, his voice shaky. "I have something to tell you." He showed her the muddy truck and explained everything. His mom listened quietly, then gave him a hug. "Telling the truth is very brave, Theo," she said.
Together, Theo and his mom got a bucket of warm, soapy water and a soft cloth. Theo was very careful. He gently scrubbed every speck of mud off the red truck. He cleaned the wheels, the cab, and even the tiny silver bumper. Soon, it was shiny and red again!
Theo carried the clean truck back to Sam's house. His hands were a little sweaty. "Sam," Theo said. "I borrowed your truck without asking, and it got muddy. I'm very sorry. I cleaned it for you." He held out the sparkling red truck.
Sam looked at the truck, then at Theo's honest face. A big smile spread across his face. "Thanks for telling me and cleaning it!" Sam said. "Want to play with it together? We can build an even bigger castle!" Theo felt a happy relief wash over him. They played all afternoon, sharing the red truck and their friendship.
