A gentle story about a boy named Leo who learns to understand and kindly communicate about personal space with his friends and family.

Leo loved playing with his friends! But sometimes, when they all got excited, things felt a little squished. Zara would stand very close to see his puzzle. Sam's elbow would bump his arm while they drew. Leo didn't mind sharing, but he sometimes wiggled, feeling like he needed more room to breathe and think. He just wasn't sure how to say it.

That evening, Leo's mom noticed him fidgeting. "You seem thoughtful," she said. "Sometimes," Leo explained, "I feel like I have a bubble of space all around me, and when someone comes into it, I get fidgety." His mom smiled. "That's a wonderful way to think about it! Everyone has a personal space bubble. It's an invisible space that helps us feel safe and comfortable."

"How big is my bubble?" Leo asked. Mom held her arms out in a wide circle. "About this big!" she said. "It's like having room to stretch your arms out without touching anyone. We can't see the bubble, but we can feel it." She showed Leo how to stand with his arms out. "See? Plenty of room to be you!" Leo practiced, spinning slowly in his own spacious bubble.

The next day, Leo saw his neighbor, Mr. Jasper, watering his flowers. "Hello, Leo!" Mr. Jasper said with a smile. Remembering his bubble, Leo didn't run right up. He stopped a few steps away and waved. "Hi, Mr. Jasper! Your flowers look beautiful." Mr. Jasper's smile grew even warmer. "Why, thank you for noticing, Leo!" Leo felt good giving them both space to talk comfortably.

At the park, Zara came running over, her arms wide for a hug. Leo remembered his mom's words. "Zara!" he said kindly, putting his hands up gently. "Can we do a high-five instead? I need a little space right now." Zara stopped, then grinned. "Okay!" she said, slapping his hand. "High-five!" They both laughed. Leo felt proud for using his words.

Later, while building a block tower with Sam, Leo noticed his own body clues. Sam was leaning in very close, and Leo started to feel squirmy. His shoulders got tight. That was his bubble feeling squished! He took a small step back. "Our tower is getting tall," he said. "Let's make the base wider." Moving back just a bit helped Leo feel calm and focused again.

Sam looked at his own space. "I like having room to build," he said softly. "Me too," said Leo. They decided to build two fantastic castles, with a friendly path of space between them. Zara came over and saw the path. "Can I build a bridge?" she asked. "Yes, please!" said Leo. They all worked together, with plenty of space for everyone's ideas.
