Ella loved her classroom. The walls were covered with colorful art, and the bookshelf was full of stories. But sometimes, new things could feel too big and loud. Today, Ms. Rivera gathered the class on the reading rug. "Friends," she said softly, "we are going to practice our school safety drill. It's just practice, so we can all learn what to do." Ella held her blue rabbit, Floppy, a little tighter.

"First," Ms. Rivera explained, holding up one finger, "we will hear a loud beeping sound. It's just a signal for our drill. If the sound feels too loud for your ears, you can do this." She gently put her hands over her own ears. Ella watched carefully. She liked knowing she could cover her ears. It was a plan.

"Next," Ms. Rivera continued, holding up two fingers, "we will line up quietly at the door. We walk together, like a calm, slow train." She showed them how to walk with quiet feet. Ella imagined being a slow, steady train car. She took one slow breath, in and out, just like she practiced at home.

"Then," said Ms. Rivera, holding up three fingers, "we will walk down the hall to our special safe spot in the gym. We'll all stand together on the big blue circle." Ella looked at Leo, who gave her a thumbs-up. Knowing there was a specific blue circle to stand on made her feel better.

"Finally," Ms. Rivera said, holding up four fingers with a kind smile, "we will wait quietly. I will say 'all clear,' and that means our practice is done. We did it together!" Ella repeated the steps in her mind: cover, line, walk, stand, wait. She knew the plan.

The loud beep sounded! Ella's shoulders jumped. The sound was sharp. Remembering her plan, she carefully put her hands over her ears. It helped. She saw Leo cover his ears too. Ms. Rivera smiled and nodded. Ella took another slow breath.

Following Ms. Rivera, the class lined up. Ella held Floppy in one hand and kept the other near her ear, just in case. They walked slowly and quietly, just like a calm train. Ella kept her eyes on Ms. Rivera's green dress, a steady, quiet color leading the way.
