The sun was shining, but Ava's tummy felt full of fluttering butterflies. Today was her first day of school! She looked at her new red backpack and her purple sneakers. "What if I can't find my classroom?" she whispered to herself, feeling a little wobbly.

Mom gave Ava a big hug. "I felt just the same on my first day," she said with a smile. "Let's get ready together, one thing at a time." They picked out Ava's favorite yellow shirt and packed a special snack. Mom's calm voice made the butterflies in Ava's tummy settle down a little.

Hand in hand, Ava and Mom walked to the big, friendly-looking school. Other children and grown-ups were walking in, too. Ava saw a flag waving and colorful pictures in the windows. "See the sun over the door?" Mom said. "It's smiling at you, just like I am."

Inside, the hallway was bright. Ava saw a row of hooks with pictures above them. One hook had a picture of a red apple, just like the sticker on her backpack! "This one is yours," Mom said. Ava hung up her backpack all by herself. It felt like a small, important job.

Ava peeked into a room with the number '1' on the door. A kind woman with glasses and a colorful dress waved. "Hello! You must be Ava. I'm Ms. River. I'm so happy you're here!" Her voice was warm, like a cozy blanket. Ava gave her new teacher a small, shy smile.

Mom gave Ava one last squeeze. "You are so brave. I'll be right here after the big hand on the clock points to the three." Ava took a deep breath and waved goodbye. She watched Mom walk away, then turned to see Ms. River holding out her hand.

Ms. River showed Ava a big, colorful chart on the wall. "First, we sit on the rug," she said, pointing to a picture of children sitting. "Then we sing our good morning song." Ava sat down on a soft blue square. Knowing what came next made her feel a little taller.

A boy with spiky hair sat next to Ava. "Hi! I'm Leo," he said. "Do you like building towers?" He showed her a basket of colorful blocks. Ava nodded. Soon, they were building a wobbly, wonderful tower together. Making something new with a friend felt like a game.
